Mumbai Indians have announced the signing of Corbin Bosch as a replacement for Lizaad Williams, who has been ruled out of the 2025 IPL season due to injury.
Bosch, a South African all-rounder known for his bowling, will join the Mumbai Indians for his first IPL experience. Although he has been a reserve player for Rajasthan Royals in the past, this will be his debut in the league. The 30-year-old is well-acquainted with the Mumbai Indians franchise, having recently played a key role in MI Cape Town’s victory in the SA20 tournament earlier this year. He took 11 wickets in 7 innings with an economy rate of 8.68 during that tournament.
Bosch will reunite with his MI Cape Town teammate, Ryan Rickelton, at Mumbai Indians. He is expected to be the third seam-bowling all-rounder in the team, alongside Hardik Pandya and Raj Bawa.
To participate in the IPL, Bosch will have to withdraw from his contract with Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2025. The scheduling of PSL has changed this year, now overlapping with the IPL in April and May.
Bosch’s experience also includes playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the now-discontinued Mzansi Super League (MSL). He is a versatile player who can bat in different positions and bowl effectively at the end of an innings.
In his T20 career, Bosch has played 86 matches, taking 59 wickets with an economy rate of 8.38 and scoring 663 runs at a strike rate of 113.33.
This IPL contract with Mumbai Indians adds to Bosch’s recent successes. He also achieved a notable feat in a Test match against Pakistan, becoming the first South African player to take four wickets and score a half-century on his debut. His contributions helped South Africa secure a place in the World Test Championship final.
Following his SA20 win, Bosch was also included in South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad as an injury replacement, although he only played in a warm-up match.
Lizaad Williams is the second Mumbai Indians player to be ruled out due to injury for the upcoming season, following Afghanistan’s A.M. Ghazanfar, who is recovering from a back injury.
