South African fast bowler Dane Paterson will play for Middlesex in April and May in the County Championship. This move provides him with an opportunity to play at Lord’s and strengthen his case for selection in the World Test Championship final on June 11.
Paterson, 35, impressed in his recent Test appearances for South Africa, taking five-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. His contract with Middlesex includes their first seven Championship games, four of which are at Lord’s, the venue for the WTC final against Australia.
After four seasons with Nottinghamshire, where he claimed 180 Championship wickets, Paterson was not offered a new contract. He will now join Middlesex, hoping to lead their bowling attack following Ethan Bamber’s move to Warwickshire.

Dane Paterson has achieved five-wicket hauls in his last two Test matches.
Paterson expressed his excitement about joining Middlesex and his determination to help the club get promoted back to Division One. He also acknowledged his time with Nottinghamshire with fondness, where he built lasting friendships.
Paterson is one of several players, including Kyle Verreynne and David Bedingham, using county cricket to prepare for the WTC final. Australian players Cameron Green and Beau Webster are also set to participate in the Championship for the same reason.
Middlesex Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, welcomed Paterson’s signing, highlighting his quality and experience in English conditions, anticipating a significant impact in the first half of the season.
In other news, Durham has signed South Australian seamer Brendan Doggett for a short-term stint in the early weeks of the 2025 season.
