Nayef Aguerd's Surprise U-Turn: Loan to Real Sociedad Called Off

In a dramatic turn of events, Nayef Aguerd has reportedly backed out of his loan move to Real Sociedad, despite a medical examination and an agreement reached between the San Sebastian club and OM. This development comes at a critical time for Marseille, who are in urgent need of player sales.

According to Foot Mercato, the 30-year-old Moroccan international had completed his medical in San Sebastian, and both clubs had agreed on a paid loan deal worth 3 million euros with a non-obligatory purchase option of 17 million euros. However, Aguerd made a last-minute decision to reverse course following discussions with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.

A Difficult Situation for OM

This sudden change of heart is particularly ill-timed for the Marseille club, which desperately needs to offload players to comply with DNCG regulations. In recent days, Geronimo Rulli and Facundo Medina have departed Marseille for Manchester City (3.5 million euros) and Bayer Leverkusen (25 million euros), respectively.

OM has yet to issue an official statement regarding Aguerd's situation. The team, managed by Bruno Genesio, is preparing for their final pre-season match against Atletico Madrid before their Ligue 1 opener against Strasbourg.
