Australian left-arm fast bowler Liam Guthrie has signed a three-year contract with Northamptonshire. The 27-year-old qualifies as a local player due to holding a UK passport.
This signing follows the appointment of Darren Lehmann as the new head coach of Northamptonshire. Lehmann, who previously coached Guthrie at Queensland and Brisbane Heat, praised Guthrie’s genuine pace and ability to swing the ball.
Guthrie expressed his excitement about joining Northamptonshire, stating, “I’m truly excited about the opportunity to play for Northamptonshire. Competing in the UK has always been a goal of mine, and I am eager to embark on this new chapter.”
He added, “I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Darren Lehmann, whose influence on my cricket has been significant since our time working together in Queensland.”

Guthrie made his first-class debut for Western Australia in 2018 and later played for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League in 2021. He has represented Queensland in domestic cricket.
In his first-class career, Guthrie has taken 50 wickets in 18 matches at an average of 37.82. He also has 27 wickets in List A cricket and 6 wickets in T20s.
Lehmann commented, “We’re really excited about Liam joining us as a local player for the next three years. He brings left arm swing, genuine pace and having worked with him at Brisbane Heat and Queensland, his attitude is excellent and he has real wicket-taking abilities.”
Lehmann concluded, “He’ll fit right in with the group who I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with so far.”
