Major League Soccer is celebrating its 30th season, and the opponent for the All-Star game in Austin has been announced. In July at Q2 Stadium, the MLS All-Stars will compete against the Liga MX All-Stars for the second year in a row, and the fourth time in the last five years.

MLS Executive Vice President Camilo Durana stated, “We are excited to once again welcome LIGA MX to the 2025 MLS All-Star Game, showcasing the top talent from both leagues. This is a thrilling matchup for the first professional All-Star Game in Austin, bringing an intense rivalry to the passionate Austin fans and viewers worldwide on MLS Season Pass through the Apple TV app.”

With MLS stars like Giorgos Giakoumakis and Mateusz Bogusz joining Liga MX, along with global stars such as Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez, this All-Star game promises to be full of stars, even without a European team. This exciting lineup is a key reason why MLS has moved away from playing European teams in the midseason game. The last time they faced a European team was Arsenal in 2023, and before that in 2019.

In previous All-Star games against Liga MX, the MLS All-Stars have won one game, drawn one (and won on penalties), and lost one. As the two leagues increasingly compete in tournaments like the Concacaf Champions Cup and the Leagues Cup, this All-Star game aims to further develop the growing rivalry between them.

Hosting the game in Austin provides an opportunity for fans to highlight the amazing atmosphere at Q2 Stadium. The stadium has sold out every home match in its history, so there is expected to be huge interest in the All-Star game and surrounding events like the Skills Challenge and concerts.
