Colby Covington Wants RAF Rematches with Khamzat Chimaev and Kamaru Usman

Colby Covington has two freestyle wrestling matchups in mind that he believes would draw significant attention.

Covington has revitalized his career with a freestyle wrestling run following his MMA career. He recently achieved a 10-0 victory over former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. This followed his win against Arman Tsarukyan in July, which he won 5-3. Covington sees potential for grudge matches with Khamzat Chimaev and a clash with his former rival Kamaru Usman as compelling directions for RAF (Real Adaptive Fighting).

Speaking to reporters after his win over Muhammad at RAF 13, Covington explained his interest in facing Chimaev and Usman.

“There are many opponents, and fortunately, RAF has plenty of skilled fighters to challenge myself,” Covington stated at the post-match press conference. “Naturally, ‘Marty Fakenewsman’ (Kamaru Usman) and I have unresolved issues. That trilogy fight is a major contest, likely at the top of my list. ‘Cumshot’ (Khamzat) Chimaev is also a consideration, but he needs to adhere to a weight plan. He can’t continue to be unprofessional, miss weight, or withdraw again due to a minor illness.”

Chimaev recently mentioned that he may have unintentionally revealed RAF's plans for a bout with Covington. It remains to be seen if this match will happen. Both fighters have exchanged words over the years, and the buildup to such a contest could captivate a large segment of the MMA audience. Whether fans are eager to see Covington and Usman compete on the wrestling mats is also uncertain.

Usman defeated Covington twice in their UFC welterweight title fights. In their first encounter, “The Nigerian Nightmare” broke Covington’s jaw, leading to a TKO. Usman secured a unanimous decision in their second fight.
