Pakistan is expected to tour Bangladesh for a series of limited-overs matches in mid-2025, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed.
Bangladesh is already scheduled to visit Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is as part of the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP). Following recent discussions between BCB chief Faruque and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, a reciprocal tour focused on white-ball cricket has been agreed for July or August, Faruque mentioned.
Faruque stated on Saturday that the PCB informed them about touring Bangladesh outside the FTP. He added that there might be a short tour in July, which is mostly confirmed, and further details will be announced upon finalization.
Faruque also mentioned discussing the possibility of Bangladesh participating in a Pakistan tri-series in the future, if the timing is suitable for Bangladesh.
Following Bangladesh’s exit from the Champions Trophy group stage, Faruque indicated that the BCB will start planning for Bangladesh’s preparation for the next 50-over World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027. He believes experienced individuals like Najmul Abedin Faheem are well-suited to handle the operations committee and guide cricket forward.
Bangladesh also needs to make decisions regarding their T20I team, especially after Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down as captain in January. Faruque said that a new captain will be selected from recent captains, with speculation pointing towards Litton Das.
He added that they will soon decide on a captain from those who have recently led the team and an announcement will be made.
The BCB is also planning a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently announced his retirement from ODIs. Faruque acknowledged Mushfiqur as a legend and an architect of Bangladesh cricket over the last 19 years, highlighting his significant contributions since 2005, including the 2007 World Cup. He emphasized that Mushfiqur’s journey serves as an inspiration for younger generations.
