Iyer primarily batted at No. 4 in IPL 2024 when he led KKR to the title.

Shreyas Iyer, the new captain of Punjab Kings, has announced his intention to bat at No. 3 in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. While he mostly batted at No. 4 in IPL 2024, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to victory, Iyer sees No. 3 as his preferred position in T20 cricket.

Speaking at a press conference, Iyer stated, “IPL is a crucial part of Indian cricket, and if I were to choose a position to solidify in T20s, it would be No. 3. That’s my focus.” He clarified that this time, he has a clear vision for his batting position and will concentrate on it, pending the coach’s approval.

This season will see Iyer reunite with coach Ricky Ponting, with whom he previously enjoyed successful stints at Delhi Capitals. Ponting expressed his eagerness to work with Iyer again, highlighting their strong relationship and Iyer’s qualities as a player and IPL-winning captain.

Ponting emphasized the importance of home wins for IPL success, a challenge Punjab Kings faced in the previous season. He aims to address this and is looking forward to a dynamic and entertaining season with the team, under Iyer’s leadership.
