Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. this Saturday night. The boxing event takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and will be available on Prime Video PPV starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Davis, boasting a perfect record of 30 wins with 28 knockouts, is a champion across three weight divisions. His last fight saw him knock out Frank Martin in the eighth round in June. Notably, nine of his last ten victories have been by knockout, including a seventh-round KO against Ryan Garcia in 2023. Davis initially secured the WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title in 2019 by defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa and successfully defended it four times before being promoted to WBA ‘super’ champion in January 2024.

During a media workout on Wednesday, Davis commented on his opponent, stating, ‘Roach is definitely in for a surprise. He’s trying to build himself up mentally, but ultimately, it comes down to skill. The more skilled fighter will emerge victorious.’

Davis further elaborated on his strengths, saying, ‘I am sharp, quick, and explosive. Roach is also sharp. This fight is going to be intense.’

Roach, with a record of 25 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw, and 10 knockouts, has been on a winning streak of six fights since his only defeat – a unanimous decision loss to Jamel Herring in 2019 when challenging for the WBC junior lightweight title. His most recent victory was an eighth-round stoppage of Feargal McCrory last June.

Roach expressed his determination, saying, ‘The stakes are higher now, and I’m ready to give it my all. I have prepared myself to be in peak physical and mental condition.’

He added, ‘This fight means everything to me. Becoming a champion in two weight divisions would be a dream realized.’
